Landscape Design, Houzz and Fire Pits….
Houzz.com reminded us of a recent project that was undertaken a couple of years ago by the Resort Style Design team (Formally New Zealand Projects International’s Design Team). This project involved designing and developing a luxury residential home on Auckland’s picturesque North Shore. The design remit was challenging and only just achievable considering the budget that required a luxurious feel, was functionally comfortable, versatile and above all had to incorporate passive design techniques to keep this large house energy efficient, warm in winter and cool in summer. What we designed and developed is perhaps one of New Zealand’s highest quality eco-luxury builds for the available budget. The main dwelling is almost 400 sq.m in plan and performs better than a new house 20% of its size that adheres to the latest New Zealand building code.
One exciting element of this design and build project was the expanse of undulating land that created an ideal canvas to build various entertainment zones. We had some Cape Cod chairs made for us and painted in various bright colours. We then purchased the biggest fire pit bowl we could find in New Zealand and made an elevated platform for it to sit on. We kept the fire pit as far away from the main dwelling as possible in order to prevent any artificial light encroaching on the users fire and star-gazing experience. The outcome of this affordable highly entertaining area is extraordinary and has recently been chosen as a featured article for Houzz.com (link)
